Edmund Kirk 1860-1949 m Hattie A Davis
Sarah Cordelia 1861-1950 m William Muirhead
Charles E 1864-1946 m Grace McMillian

Shields's father John had been drafted to serve in the Civil War but Shields, the oldest son of John and Susan felt it would be much better for him to go - he was younger to take the rigors of service and he felt that he would rather go than to take on the responsibilities of the large family. In those days men were allowed to send a substitute so Shields went for his father. He never returned for he died for lack of care in a prison in Tyler, Texas. He is buried there but a marker was placed in the family lot with the others in Crystal Cemetery.
