Thomas O. Toone, (U.S. Army, Retired), age 92, of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away Friday, October 3, 2008, at the John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital in Little Rock. Born in Tulia, Texas, on February 18, 1916, he was the son of the late William T. and Elizabeth L. (Thomas) Toone.

Mr. Toone was a former resident of West Plains, Missouri, and Higden, Arkansas. He was retired from the United States military with six and a half years service in the Marine Corps and twenty-two and a half years in the Army. Mr. Toone was a Pearl Harbor survivor, having been aboard the USS California on December 7, 1941. He was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association and was awarded the Legion of Merit and Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster. Mr. Toone also served in Korea and Vietnam, retiring from the U.S. Army in 1969 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was a past member and past president of the Optimist Club in Greers Ferry. Mr. Toone was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Little Rock. His wife of 64 years, Agnes Hess Toone, preceded him in death on October 17, 2007, and he was also preceded in death by seven siblings.

Mr. Toone is survived by one son, William Thomas Toone of Seymore, Missouri; four daughters, Patricia Toone Gladden of Chicago, Illinois, Susan Toone of Little Rock, Barbara Kohutiak of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and Mary Lou Perri of New Freedom, Pennsylvania; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 11, at 1:00 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church in Little Rock. Interment of Mr. and Mrs. Toone will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
