Mrs. Jean T. Shurling, age 64, of Tennille Georgia died Saturday June 12 in an Augusta hospital following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P. M. Tuesday June 15. The Rev. Darell Young and Rev. Jerry Walden will officiate with burial in the Zeta Cemetery in Tennille. Pallbearers will be Charles Shurling, Thomas Scott, Billy Don Mullis, Charles Young, John Napier, Ron Swanson, Mack Walters and Lamar Binion.
Mrs. Shurling was a native of Gadsden Alabama, the daughter of the late Curtis D. Tommie and the late Beatrice Tillerson Tommie. She attended Jacksonville State College and received her Masters Degree in Education from Georgia College in Milledgeville. She taught school in Clarkston Georgia and was a retired middle school teacher with the Washington County School System and a member of Alpha Delta Kappa. Mrs. Shurling was a member of the Tennille Baptist Church and a choir member. She was predeceased by a son, Michael Scott Shurling.
Survivors are her husband, Edsel Shurling of Tennille, a brother, David Lamar Tommie and his wife Cheryl of Gadsden, Alabama, a niece and nephew, Susan T. Trader of Thomasville, Ala. And Matthew Tommie of Alabama, a great niece and nephew, Suzanne Trader and Stephen David Trader.
