Dorothy Harry Tolbert departed this life Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at Bristol Wellmont Regional Hospital surrounded by her four daughters. "I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith now there is restored for me the crown of righteousness." II Timothy 4:7. A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 11 a.m. at Rocky Gap United Methodist Church with Pastors Paul Looney and Rodney Lawson officiating. Interment will be in Monte Vista Cemetery. She was born Aug. 23, 1927, in Bluefield, W.Va., daughter of the late Dexter and Nellie Harry. In 1945, she married Kenneth W. Tolbert and moved to Bland County where along with family members owned and operated the Mountain Motel and Restaurant. She was later employed by Tultex Corp. in Bastian and retired after 33 years of service. She was a member of Rocky Gap United Methodist Church and served as a member of the board of trustees. She lovingly assisted with the church pre-school program. She was a past worthy matron of the Rocky Gap Order of the Eastern Star. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her grandkids were the joy of her life and she was always there to nurture, spoil and love them. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Kenneth Tolbert. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Jim Holland of Jacksonville, Fla., Linda and Jim Harman of Bastian, Kim and Rodney Lambert of Narrows, and Kathy and Bob Robinson of Abingdon; brothers, William Harry of Richmond and Paul Harry of Bluefield, W.Va.; grandchildren, Gary Morehead, Randy Harless, Laura Radford, Kevin Harless, Jenny Pruett, Jason Lambert and Joe Lambert; great-grandchildren, Kyra Morehead, Cody Radford, Hannah Radford, Rachel Radford, Stephanie Radford, Benjamin Harless, Joseph Harless, Kalub Lambert, Malee Lambert and Sawyer Lambert; best friends, Jean Ann Davidson, Jane Havens and Kaye Thompson; and special neighbor, Rex Sparks. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rocky Gap United Methodist Church Pre-school Program, c/o Jane Havens, Dry Fork Rd., Rocky Gap, VA 24366. A. Vest & Sons in White Gate is in charge of the arrangements.
