Dorothy Lee Tolbert

Dorothy Lee Tolbert, 96, of Crab Orchard, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2013, at Bowers Hospice House.

Born April 27, 1917, in Mabscott, she was the daughter of the late Willie Edgar and Lillie Davis Underwood.

Dorothy was a homemaker, an avid reader and attended Oak Grove Christian Church for over 86 years. She was very active in the church having taught Women's Bible Class for 50 plus years, provided many meals for visiting ministers and missionaries and was a youth sponsor. Dorothy was the last surviving member of her family.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, James Burdette Tolbert; sister, Hazel Clay; brothers, Herbert, Oscar, Orval and John Underwood; and a son-in-law, Elwood Phipps.

Survivors include her daughters, Joyce Phipps of Crab Orchard and June Goss and husband Ronald of Jonesboro, Tenn.; grandchildren, David Kelly Phipps and wife Kim (JoAnn) of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Kim White and husband Doug of Crab Orchard, Daniel Phipps and wife Lori of Charleston, Jonathan Goss and wife Susan of Bluefield and Julee Gray and husband Matthew of Carrollton, Ga.; great-grandchildren, David and Josh White, Brooke Phipps, Mallory Braenovich, Joel Maddox, Meredith, Caleb and Jenna Goss and Catherine and Lauren Gray; very special niece and nephew, Ann Mills and Clyde "Skeet" Clay; and many other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, August 25, 2013, at Oak Grove Christian Church with Pastor Kelly Gowen officiating. He will be assisted by grandsons Kelly Phipps and Jonathan Goss. Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Calfee Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Grandson will serve as pallbearers.
