The Rev. Charles F. Tolbert, 81, of Scotland, PA passed away on Monday, March 12, 2012 at home. He was born August 23, 1930 in Chambersburg, the son of the late Charles E. and Isabelle (Wagner) Tolbert.
He was a member and pastor of the Free Methodist Church and attended Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church after his retirement in 1995, where he was a Sunday school teacher for a number of years. He also had been a pastor of: St. Thomas United Methodist Church, Spirit of Christ Community Church, Herkimer Free Methodist in New York and also a chaplain at Providence Place during his retirement.
Rev. Tolbert was a 1948 graduate of CHS, attended Shippensburg State College and received his Masters of Divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary. He also served in the U. S. Navy from 1948 to 1952.
Surviving him is his wife: Shirley (Leaman) Tolbert of Scotland; two sons: Charles F. Tolbert, Jr. of Greencastle and Edward E. Tolbert of Chambersburg; three daughters: Charlotte L. Smith of Waynesboro, Laurie J. Hampton of Media, PA, Elizabeth S. of Chambersburg; one sister: Janet King of Geneva, FL; twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A Memorial Celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church with the Rev. Chris Little officiating.
