Frances was the daughter of Peter P.W. Toews and Bertha Otto Toews. Frances was born in Alberta, Canada. In 1920 the family moved to Winton, CA. They lived in the country on Buhach Road and the children went to Arundel School. Then in 1928 the family moved to Texas for 3 years and were back in Winton by 1931. This time they lived in town on the SE corner of Cottage St. and Hall Blvd.
Frances worked at the Madera County Hospital where she met and married John T. Cupples December 8, 1940. They had two children.
In 1950 to 1953 during the polio epidemic Frances worked at Bloss Hospital in Atwater. Later she managed the cafeteria at Elmer Wood School for 25 years. In 1977 she received an honorary award for involvement in community activities from the local PTA.
Both John and Frances were very involved in the Atwater Methodist Church.
