Mrs. Fritz Pieper, a resident of West Point township all her life, passed away at her home in West Point, Saturday, August 25, 1917, at 9:00 p.m., aged 59 years, 4 months 13 days. Heart trouble of which she suffered for a number of years was the cause of her death.
Mary Toelle was born in West Point May 12, 1858, her parents being some of the early settlers in this township. On October 25, 1877, she was united in marriage to Fritz Pieper. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Father Kempker, now of Dubuque, and was solemnized at St. Mary's church in West Point. The family continued to live on a farm in this township up to two years ago when they retired and moved to West Point. She is survived by the husband, four sons and four daughters: Jos. Pieper of West Point township, Herman, Ed and Bernard Pieper all of West Point, Mrs. Henry Brune and Mrs. Jos. Kramer of West Point township and Miss Elizabeth Pieper and Mrs. Dan Bonneville of West Point. She also leaves twelve grandchildren, one sister Miss Elizabeth Toelle and one half sister Mrs. Anna Bergthold.
Deceased was true to her home and her church, and was a devout member of St. Mary's church and was also a member of the rosary society of that parish. A devoted, true and loving wife and mother, and had the love and respect of her neighbors and acquaintances. Her demise will be mourned by many relatives and friends.
The funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10:00 o'clock at St. Mary's church. Rev. Father Grothe officiated and the services were attended by many relatives and friends, including the Rosary society which attended in a body. Interment was made in Calvary.
