Spouse: Edgar Gardner Tobin (1896-1954). They were married November 10, 1926 in Austin, Texas.
Child: Robert Lynn Batts Tobin (1934-2000).
She grew up in Texas and New York City. She attended the University of Texas at Austin, but did not graduate.
She was one of the organizers of the San Antonio Symphony orchestra in 1939. Then the establishment of an opera series a few years later. She served as President of the Symphony Society in 1951. Later chairing its board.
Margaret was very involved with the New York City Metropolitan Opera. She sat on the advisory board and was a member of the managing board of directors.
She was on the McNay Art Museum Board of Trustees. Served as President for many years.
In 1947 Texas Governor Beauford H. Jester appointed her to fill an unexpired term on the board of regents of the University of Texas. She was reappointed to a six year term in 1949 and served till 1955.
In 1984 Margaret had a wing built at the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio, Texas. The wing is called "The Tobin Wing". It was constructed to provide a museum setting for the theater arts. It houses Robert Tobin's extensive collection of over 20,000 original models, scenic and costume designs, as well some 8,000 rare and illustrated books.
