Alvin E. Tisch, age 98, was born on March 11, 1913 in Kansas City, Missouri and passed away June 15, 2011 at Kansas City Hospice House. He moved to Urich, Missouri at age 10. At 17 he joined the Navy and served 6 years as a Pharmacist Mate-3rd Class. Settling in Belleville, Illinois, he met Eleanor Kettler, who became his wife of 67 years. In 1950 they moved to Missouri where "Pop," as nearly everyone called him, took a job as an auto worker at the GM Leeds plant, retiring 27 years later. Pop is a Past Master of Grandview Masonic Lodge #365, a member of the UAW, and a 50 year member of Grandview UMC. Pop was a self-taught and self-reliant man who lived according to God's will. With impeccable character and strong values, he was a role model for many. Pop single-handedly built three houses for his family, including digging the basements with nothing but a shovel. As a master carpenter, he crafted many pieces of fine furniture. In his later years he became a plastic canvas artist, creating numerous model villages and wall displays. Pop could solve any problem, fix any break, and heal any hurt. His love, forgiveness, integrity, and unwavering support created an unshakeable haven for all. His legacy will persist through those fortunate to have had him in their lives. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eleanor; his mother, Minnie Voss; and his father, Arthur Tisch. He is survived by daughter Sharyn Sisk and spouse Bruce of Forsyth, Missouri; son Roger Tisch and spouse Judy of Grandview, Missouri; sister Dorothy Thompson of Urich, Missouri; grandchildren Jason Miller & Serena of Lenexa, Troy Tisch & Tina of Independence, Krystin Johnson & Christopher of Austin, Texas, Chad Miller & Ashley of Butler; and ten great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00 p.m. followed by Services at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 19th at Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home at 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Kansas City Hospice, Spofford Home of Kansas City, and Grandview United Methodist Church. Condolences may be made at www.mtmoriah-freeman.com. Arrangements under the direction of Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home in Kansas City, MO.
