Birth: Sep. 12, 1812
Death: Apr. 7, 1904

Martha McCreary Tipton was the daughter of Solomon (1785-1817) and Margaret Bradshaw Tipton (1790-1812/8), of Mt. Sterling, Ky. Solomon Tipton was the son of William Tipton (1756-1837) who was born near Baltimore, moved near Winchester, Va. before the Revolution and lived outside of Mt. Sterling after the Revolution. During the Revolution William Tipton served five different terms of enlistment - the last was August-October, 1781, the Yorktown Campaign when Cornwallis surrendered to Washington on October 19, 1781. William Tipton was a descendant of Jonathan Tipton (1639-1757) who was a large landowner - attested to by many land transactions on the record books of Anne Arundel and Baltimore Counties, Maryland. The Tiptons were related to U.S. Senator, Major General John Tipton (1786-1830), of Indiana.

See Rev. Ervin Charles Tipton, We Tiptons and Our Kin (1975) pp. 449-451, 455. According to Tipton's book, William Tipton was a descendant of Mordecai Price (c1660-1715) who was an ancestor of President Nixon. (at 397)
