AUBURN --- James W. "Bill" Tindell, 67, Auburn, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at a Topeka hospital.

He was born Nov. 18, 1935, on a farm near Scranton, the son of James C. and Margaret Graham Tindell. He graduated from Scranton High School in 1953.

He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Topeka, where he served as treasurer of Rubber Workers Union No. 307. Bill was a well- known realtor in the Topeka area until his death.

He is survived by his wife, Louise, of the home.

Bill married Janice Ridinger in 1956. Surviving are three children, a son, Michael and wife Gail Tindell, Auburn, two daughters, Candace and husband Ron Herman, Overland Park, and Catherine Nicoletti, Auburn.

He married Louise Harris Newman (his wife of 31 years) in June 1972. Surviving are Louise's daughters, Debbie Newman, Lawrence, Brenda Newman, Auburn, and Carla Newman, Topeka.

Other survivors include a sister Jeanne and husband Bob Blinn, Beatrice, Neb.; a brother, Al Tindell, Homer, Alaska; a brother-in- law, Lee Gearhart, Topeka; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by William Joseph Volz, infant son of Catherine, and his sister, Joanne Gearhart.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, at Fellowship Bible Church, S.W. 17th and Indian Hills Road, Topeka. Casual attire is appropriate. Interment will be in Scranton Cemetery, Scranton. He will lie in state after 5 p.m. Tuesday at the church, where the family will meet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Auburn Community Center Association, Auburn, Kan., or the Central Christian College Soccer Scholarship Fund, McPherson, Kan., and sent in care of Carey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 196, Burlingame, Kan. 66413.
