A celebration of life for Mary A. King, 76, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Garfield Christian Church, with the Rev. King Rockhill officiating. Cremation preceded the services. Mrs. King died Tuesday afternoon, April 7, 2009, at the Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane, from cancer.
She was born on July 24, 1932, at Garfield, to Johnnie and Kathyrn Cottrill Timm. She attended Garfield schools, graduating from Garfield High School in 1950. She attended Eastern Washington University at Cheney for one year.
She married Robert (Bob) King on July 5, 1952, at Garfield, and the couple made their home at Garfield. The couple lived in many areas of the United States as Mr. King served in the military. The couple returned to Garfield in 1974.
The couple operated the North Palouse Area Food and Clothing Bank for several years. Mr. King died in 2004.
She was a member of the Garfield Christian Church, Garfield Legion Auxiliary, Ladow Grange, and North Palouse Area Food and Clothing Bank, all of Garfield.
Survivors include four sons, Robert King Jr. of Spokane Valley, Wash., Rusty King of Edgewood, Md., Alan King of Shoreline, Wash., and James King of Nezperce; three daughters, Carol MacPherson of Garfield, Penny Martinez of Fort Hood, Texas, and Traci King of Clarkston; one brother, Fred Timm of Olympia; five sisters, Agnes Clemons of Reading, Pa., Violet Embry of Port Angeles, Wash., Wanda Roper of Oakesdale, Wash., Donna Kottke of Spokane, and Betty Bunn of North Bend, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. One brother, Archie Timm, preceded her in death.
Memorial gifts may be given to the American Cancer Society.
Kramer Funeral Home, Palouse, handled the arrangements.
Cremated, Location of ashes is unknown.
