W.P. Timberlake, 95, Dies; In Civil War
Retired Jackson Capitalist will be buried today.
Jackson, Tenn, Oct 2-- Capt. William Poindexter Timberlake, 95, retired capitalist cotton buyer, and one of Madison County's oldest citizens, died late tonight at his East Main Street Residence after a lingering illness.
He was born in Henderson County and moved to Jackson in 1869. During the Civil War Captain Timberlake served under command of Col Kit Williams, father of the late John Sharp Williams.
A member of Knights of Pythias Lodge, the First Methodist Church and John Ingram bivouac of Confederate veterans of Madison County, Captain Timberlake was prominently identified here. His home stands on the famous "Haskill Hill" where the late William Haskill, regarded as one of Tennessee's foremost orators, spent his childhood.
He is survive by two sons, W.G. Timberlake, Jackson attorney, and Charles R. Timberlake, planter of Crawford Miss.; a daughter, Miss Mary E. Timberlake of Jackson, and a brother John W. Timberlake of Madison County.
Funeral services will be held from Griffin's Chapel tomorrow afternoon, the Rev. T.W. Lewis, Methodist minister, officiating. The K. P. Lodge will have charge of the rites at the grave in Riverside Cemetery.
