On New Years Day in 1857, son Merton married Elizabeth Flood in Marshall County. They welcomed daughter Adelaide "Addie" Rebecca on 2 Jan 1859. The three of them appeared together on the 1860 Census, living in Plymouth, near Merton's parents Rufus and Nancy. Merton was working as clerk somewhere.
Nancy's husband Rufus Sr. died in 1860 at age 50.
Nancy's granddaughter Addie suffered the loss of both parents before she was 11 years old. First her mother Elizabeth died in 1862 at age 30. Her father Merton died eight days after that in 1870 at age 33.
Nancy, widowed, aged 57, appeared on on an 1870 Census record, living in Center Township, Plymouth with 27-year-old Mary Brown (born in Ohio) and 2-year-old Albert Brown. Also with them was 11-year-old Addie who had just lost her father earlier that year. It is unclear what the relationship was between Nancy and Mary Brown.
Nancy, aged 66, and Addie, aged 21, were still together when the 1880 Census was taken. They had relocated to Terre Haute, Vigo Co., Indiana. Addie had finished college and found a job teaching school.
A year after that census, Nancy died at age 69, and Addie had her laid to rest next to husband Rufus and son Merton.
