Mabel Amelia Bechtold, 92 of rural Davis died Tuesday May 4, 2010 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born December 23, 1917 at home in Rock City, the daughter of Charles and Amelia (Otte) Tielkemeier. On June 4, 1943 she married Earl Bechtold in St. Paul Church or Epleyanna near Davis; he died February 16, 1007. She graduated from Dakota High School and then attended Northern Illinois State Teacher's College, studied at Illinois State University participating in geography field trips for two summers. She later earned with distinction a MA degree from Rockford College. Prior to her marriage Mabel taught at Walnut Grove School and Pearl City schools, then farmed with her husband while working at Winnebago Community Unit District from 1964-1985. Her memberships over the years include Winnebago County Home Extension, Illinois Retired Teachers Association, Freeport Community Orchestra as well as serving as an election judge at Davis. She enjoyed music playing the piano and violin, doing needlework, was a avid reader and was interested in local history. A lifelong member of St. Paul Church of Epleyanna she taught Sunday school most of her adult life. Many family and friends will remember her thoughtful notes and letters.......She is survived by her sons Carl Bechtold of Davis, James Bechtold of Rock City; one daughter Jean (Richard Thompson) Bechtold of Rock City; nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, a brother Edwin Tielkemeier, a sister Alta Kilpatrick and an infant brother......Visitation will be 9 am until 10:30 am Saturday May 8, 2010 at St. Paul Church of Epleyanna, Davis. Funeral service will be 10:30 am Saturday at church with the Reverend Dick Thompson officiating. Burial will be in the St. Paul Church Cemetery......In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in her name for the church.
