William was baptised William Tidey on 6 January 1895 at St John the Evangelist Church, Stoke Next Guildford, Surrey. He was the son of carman Alfred Tidey and Harriet Tidey nee Underwood who lived at Bell Fields, Stoke Next Guildford.

On 28 June 1913 William married Rose Ellen Lemon at St John the Evangelist Church. His occupation at the time of his marriage was carman - transporting goods by horse drawn vehicle.

William was a casualty of the Great War. He served his country as Driver 133291 William Tidy, Royal Field Artillery. William was laid to rest at Towcester Road Cemetery and was entitled to be awarded the British WW1 medals. His next of kin would have been sent the Memorial Death Plaque of WW1.

Commemorated in perpetuity by Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
