Sallie Rebekah Thurston Dressler, 86, of 604 E. Dolly Ann Dr., died Thursday, July 20, 2000, at Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor.
She was born Sept. 25, 1913, at Glen Wilton in Botetourt County, a daughter of the late Judson and Bessie Tyree Thurston.
Mrs. Dressler served in the Women's Army Corps (WACs) during World War II as a air traffic controller in the 85th Army Air Corps' Bombardier Unit. She was secretary of Dressler Motors Inc. and she was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, where she had served as a Sunday School teacher for many years.
Surviving are her husband of 56 years, William M. Dressler Sr. of Covington; two daughters and sons-in-laws, Linda and Allen Kelly and Sandra Curfman Carter and Currie Cater of Richmond; a son and daughter-in-law, William M. Dressler Jr. and Patricia of Covington; three grandsons, W. Russell Curfman III of Ashburn, William M. Dressler III and Ethan M. Dressler, both of Covington; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Dressler was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
A funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Ulmer officiating. Interment will be at Alleghany Memorial Park with graveside rites conducted by Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Friends may pay their respects at Arritt Funeral Home at anytime. The family will receive friends at Arritt Funeral Home Saturday evening from 7 o'clock to 8:30.
