David L. Thurston, age 83 of Ashley, passed away early Wednesday morning, February 19, 2014 at Kobacker House in Columbus.

He was born on February 5, 1931 in Ashley to the late William Claude and Hazel Velma (Osborn) Thurston.

David took early retirement after 31 years with Hagglunds-Denison as a Project Engineer, continued for another several years as a part-time troubleshooter and writer for Sales and Service Manuals. He then took a part-time job as Manager of Ashley Villa for 13 years. He was a member of the American Society for Mechanical Engineers, a member of the North Columbus Jaycees and Treasurer of the Central Ohio Chapter of the American Family Association. He was a member of the Delaware County Gideons and Vice-President of the Key Ministries group of Churches in southern Morrow County and northern Delaware County. He was a member of the Ashley United Methodist Church, serving as Outreach Chairman for a number of years and local or district delegate to the East Ohio Annual Conference. He was a member of a Professional Men's Bible Study in Delaware. He became a born again Christian on January 1, 1983. David was involved in The Impact World Tour which was instrumental in the salvation of many youth in Delaware County. He was very interested in his community and was involved in the Republican Party as well as a frequent writer of Letter's to the editor of both the Delaware Gazette and the Columbus Dispatch. He will be missed by many!

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years Marianne (Schwartz); children William (Maureen) of Pickerington, Bethany Thurston of Sunbury, James of Galion, and David of Ashley; grandchildren Glenn, Shailyn, Tristan, Ashley, Joseph, Brian, Mat, Lindsey, Nate, Erica, Kassidy, and Alyssa; great grandchildren Kayden, Castiel, Logan, Kyrie, and Andrew; brothers William of Leonardsburg and Richard of Azle, Texas; sisters Rosina Gillen and Trudy Oliver of Mt. Gilead.

He was also preceded in death by a brother Daniel and a sister Elizabeth Royer and stillborn grandson Cody and granddaughter Destiny.

Friends may call 10:00 am until 12:00 (noon) Saturday February 22nd at the Ashley United Methodist Church, 214 E. High St., Ashley, OH 43003, where services will follow at 12:00 (noon) with Rev. Erin Porter officiating. Burial will follow in Ashley Union Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Bennett Brown Rodman & Snyder Funeral Home in Ashley.
