Mrs. Minnie Lee Dixon, 81, of Waycross, Georgia died Saturday afternoon at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida after a brief illness. She was born in Ware County to the late Ivey Thrift and Lottie Thomas Thrift. Mrs. Dixon had made Ware County her home for all of her life. She retired from Spatola Shoe Factory after twenty years of service where she worked in the fitting room. She also worked as a nurse assistant at Baptist Village Retirement Communities for two years. Mrs. Dixon was a member of Piney Grove Primitive Baptist Church and Mars Hill Primitive Baptist Church. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Hardy Solomon, her second husband, Clyde Dixon, two brothers, Foster Thrift, Ivan Thrift, a sister, Wanda Carpenter, and the children of Clyde Dixon, Ed Dixon, Pete Dixon, and Marlene Dixon.
Mrs. Dixon is survived by four daughters, Maxine Thompson and her husband Eugene of Waycross, Georgia, Edna Solomon of Richmond Hill, Georgia, Carol O'Neill and her husband Ray of Midway, Georgia, Sharon Martin and her husband Buddy of Screven, Georgia, a son, David James Solomon and his wife Gerrie of Waycross, eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, three sisters, Joanne Kimbrell and her husband Foster of Blackshear, Georgia, Rachel Lyons of Waycross, Georgia, Mary Godwin of Atlanta, Georgia, a brother, Cary Thrift and his wife Joanne of Atlanta, Georgia. Mrs. Dixon is also survived by the children of Clyde Dixon, Betty Joe Middleton, Patty Maxey, Elizabeth Platt, Whitman Dixon and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held 2 pm, Tuesday at Mars Hill Primitive Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Piney Grove Primitive Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8 pm at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home.
