Mrs. T.A. (Venita) Atkins, of 2372 Magnolia Road, Du Quoin, Illinois passed on February 28, 2013, at the hour of 4:25 P.M. at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
Mrs. Atkins was born August 8, 1923, at Elkville, IL, the only child of Ed and Margueretha Louise Thornton, nee Kopp.
Mrs. Atkins was joined in marriage to her beloved husband, T.A. Atkins on January 1, 1954, at Pinckneyville, Illinois. To their union, only one child, Aaron A. Atkins, was born.
Mrs. Atkins was a member of Sacred Heart Church. She was a member of the Du Quoin Woman's Club, of which she served as its president for two terms in 1983-1985. Mrs. Atkins was also a member of the Du Quoin Garden Club, of which she served as Vice President in 1985-1986. She was also a past member of the Du Quoin Study Club and the Du Quoin Catholic Daughters.
Mrs. Atkins, who considered herself to be primarily a homemaker, had worked for General Telephone Company from 1946-1960, and served as receptionist for her son's law office from 1985-2013.
Mrs. Atkins leaves behind her devoted husband, T. A. Atkins, and her son, Aaron A. Atkins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be at Searby Funeral Home, Du Quoin, Illinois, on Monday evening, March 4, 2013, between the hours of 4:00 - 7:00 P.M.
The Rosary will be prayed at the funeral home on Monday evening at 7:00 P.M.
Mass of Christian Burial will be said from Sacred Heart Church, Du Quoin at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 5, 2013 with Fr. Nick Junker officiating.
Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to Masses and will be accepted at the funeral home.
