Lydia Adaline Thornton Lovendahl, 83, died on August 29, 1969 of natural aging causes. She was born February 18, 1885, in Ferron, Utah, to Joseph Smith Thornton and Elise Christina Christensen Thornton. She married Swen Magnus Lovendahl March 20, 1904, in Ferron.

Lydia graduated from the Chicago School of Nursing via correspondence course while in her forties and worked as a practical nurse for 54 years. During her life time she worked as a nurse at Hiawatha hospital, in Mohrland, and in Salt Lake City, where she worked for Dr. Pyotts Sanitarium. She delivered many babies into this world and had begun to take on helping women through their pregancis in Tyrells Lake, Elberta. Canada. She was known for her healing hand, compassion and love for her fellow man.

She gave birth to eleven children and was preceded in death by Lydia, Selma, Clive, Joseph and Paul. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Swen Magnus Lovendahl. She was survived by sons and daughters: Ray, Conago Park Calif.; Lloyd, Woodland Hills, Calif; Christine Rasmussen, Pauline, June Hamilton, all of Salt Lake and by seven grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Lydia was an active member of LDS Church, holding many offices during her life including president of the Relief Society. She loved doing geneology and making her pioneer ancestors proud. She was also a wonderful poet and story teller. Her poems are beautiful and were left to her family and friends to enjoy and remember what a sweet, courageous, gracious lady she was.

Funeral services will be held at Cannon Eighth Ward Chapel 1172 Glendale Dr. at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Viewing is from 6 to 8 p.m. p.m on Monday and one hour prior to the funeral.
Family suggests contributions may be made to the Fairview Nursing Home in Salt Lake City.
