Loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. Marie T. Landes, age 85, passed away on July 20, 2009, eight months after suffering a massive stroke. She resided at 2187 South Nowell Circle (230 East) in South Salt Lake, Utah at the time of her death.


She was born on July 31, 1923 in Provo, UT, a daughter of William George Thornton and Iva Jane Harding.


She was the oldest of six children. She graduated from West High School. She married Keith W. Landes on May 13, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. He preceded her in death on March 9, 1980. Marie had three children.


During World War II she worked at Hill Air Force Base, where she worked on bomb sites. After she raised her children she worked at the Naborhood Bakery which she enjoyed for many years.


She was a faithful member of the L.D.S. Church and held many callings throughout her life. She was an avid University of Utah sports fan and she loved watching The Utah Jazz. Marie loved her dog Molly, spending time at the Columbus Senior Center, and going out to eat with her friends.


She is survived by her children, Yvette (Keith) Wheeler, Clinton, and Clark, Salt Lake City; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters Peggy Calvin and Billie Cluff. She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter, Janice, sister Lorraine and two brothers Roy and Dwight.


Funeral Services will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive (1495 East), East Millcreek, Utah, on Monday, July 27, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Family and friends may call on Sunday, July 26, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the services.
