Calvin Charles "Chic" Thornton passed away April 14, 1999, after a wonderful life, due to complications from heart surgery.
Calvin was born in Midvale, Utah on January 14, 1929, to Grace Greenwood and Charles William Thornton. Calvin married Myrna Lee Dowding on Aug. 26, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple. Following Myrna Lee's death in July 1980, Calvin married Bonnie Jule Parris in the Salt Lake Temple on Oct. 24, 1982. Calvin's life was one of service to his fellow men. He served in the Army and Air Force during the Korean Conflict and enjoyed his duty in Alaska. He enjoyed working with his father--and later cultivated the business into the now third-generation Thornton Plumbing & Heating.
He loved and appreciated the outdoors. He was an avid skier, hiker and biker. He possessed a special ability to make friends. He was loved by all who knew him. He never tolerated or spoke an unkind word about others. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. His favorite times were those spent with others. "Go into the mountains--for your soul needs it, and your body, too."
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; six children, Clay (Tami) Thornton, Cathy (Dan) Davis, Jane (Charlie) Dunning, Ellen (Ken) Barney, Tanya (Tony) Sutton, Tricia (Klint) Ashby; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and four sisters, Lucille Jewkes, Carol Jewkes, LaVon Thornton, and Emma Jane Nelson. Preceded in death by Myrna Lee Thornton, and his parents.
