Betty L. Thorn, 76, of

Betty L. Thorn, 76, of Vienna, passed away June 6, 2005, at her residence.

She was born March 21, 1929, in Wood County, a daughter of the late James "Hod" and Mary "Rue" Canary Clegg.

Betty was a homemaker and a member of the 36th Street Church of Christ. She was a member of the Fire Department Auxiliary and enjoyed watching the Big Red Football.

She is survived by her six children, Carol L. Barnes and her husband, Michael, of Vienna, Cheryl L. Shaffer of Parkersburg, James M. Thorn and his wife, Julie, Timothy O. Thorn and his wife, Kimberly, Dennis P. Thorn and his wife, Tammy, and David W. Thorn, all of Vienna; nine grandchildren, Michael Howell, Brandon Thorn, Leah Shaffer, Meghan Thorn, Allison Shaffer, Katelyn Thorn, Lauren Thorn, Davey Thorn and Sheena Thorn; two brothers, Bill Clegg and her twin brother, Bernard Clegg, both of Vienna; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late fire chief of the City of Vienna, James William Thorn who passed away on Oct. 25, 1982; her daughter, Paula Jean Thorn; two sisters; and four brothers.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Vienna with Pastor Gene Hutton officiating. Interment will follow at the Parkersburg Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
