Husband and wife LEROY AND ERIA THOMPSON died a day apart at different convalescent homes in Modesto.
Mrs. Thompson was 90 when she died Thursday, April 14, 1999 at English Oaks Convalescent Hospital. Mr. Thompson was 91 when he died Friday, April 15, 1999 at Hy-Lond Convalescent Hospital.
ERIA LIDA THOMPSON was born June 3, 1908, in Tuttle, Oklahoma. She lived in Stanislaus County 55 years. LEROY ALFRED THOMPSON was born May 29, 1918. He lived in Stanislaus County 30 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
They are survived by Mrs. Thompson's children, Norma Darnell, Edna Whitfield and Maxine Baker; and 13 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 25 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Thompson also is survived by her sister, Larkin Tucker of Arkansas.
A joint funeral service was conducted on Tuesday, April 20th, at Lakewood Funeral Home, Hughson, California, followed by burial at Lakewood Memorial Park, Hughson.
Her first husband was Charles Ross Birden aka Charley born 25th February 1892 Arkansas, they married 25th December 1923 Lawrence Co., Ark., he died 8th March 1938 Eaton Township, Lawrence Co., Ark., and was buried 9th March 1938 in Lancaster Cemetery, Strawberry, Lawrence Co., Ark. parents Ross Birden & Laura Penn. This was from his death certificate on Ancestry - Arkansas Death Certificate 1914-1969 no. 6026. No record of his burial on Find-a-Grave found. Their daughter Norma Jean born 17th July 1928 in Norman, Cleveland Co., Ark., first marriage about 1954 to John Lewis Darnell aka Johnny, 2nd to Jack Ernest Baldwin after 1968. She died 23rd February 2003 Modesto, Stanislaus Co., California. Again, no burial record found.
