Joseph W. Thompson joined his parents and brothers and sisters to be with our Lord on June 19, 2013 after a battle with cancer. Joseph was born on January 13, 1933 in South Corinth, N.Y. Joe was the son of the late Myrtle (Holland) and the late Kenneth Thompson.
Joseph started his education in South Corinth School, continued in Corinth High School and finished in Austin Community College, Texas. Joe married Ursula Schlobinski in 1957. In 1953 he enlisted in the United States Army. He served as Sergeant until 1974. While serving his country Joe received the DEV Army Arcom, NDSM with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster, AFEM Army Occupational Medal of Germany, Army Occupational Medal of Berlin, German Accommodation Medal with 4th award, Service Stripes 7 overseas bars, Republic of Vietnam RVNCM with 60 Clusters, Vietnam Service Medal and Republic Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. Joe served in Vietnam from 1967-1970. His ending title was Mess Steward.
He entered into ten years of Civil Service at Fort Hood, Texas. He then operated his own T & S Janitorial Service in Texas for fourteen years until his retirement at the age of 72. He resided in Killeen, Texas for 38 years.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons; 14 Grandchildren and 14 Great grandchildren; two brothers; four sisters.
Joe was predeceased by his parents, sister, Ella Mary Thompson, brothers, James Thompson and Kenneth ( Louis ) Thompson and Granddaughter Melody Rollins. Joe has many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wants to offer a special thank you to our and Joes special friend Sally Garza for her continual care during his last months of life. You are a true blessing as you provided unconditional love, tireless service to Joe and hospitality to all of the friends and family during his long illness.
In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the Disable Veterans Association or a Hospice facility of your choice in the name of Mr. Joseph W. Thompson.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 9:00 AM in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery with full Military honors.
