She was born Dec. 22, 1924, in Idaho Falls, to Herbert Hans Thompson and Bessie Irene Harris Thompson. She grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls.
She worked for Western Union for 16 years, having received her training at Barstow, Calif., and later worked at the Idaho Falls Western Union office. She was employed by the Post Register in Idaho Falls for 16 years, where she met Hartvey Hansen.
In 1943 she married Wayne Elvin Sawyer and they were later divorced. She married Billy Ray Pemberton in 1950 and they were later divorced. On June 25, 1966, she married Hartvey Julius Hansen. He preceded her in death.
She was an avid outdoorswoman and loved fishing, hunting and cooking. She loved going to her cabin at Palisades; she loved animals and had many pets, including squirrels and chipmunks, at her cabin.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and was the great-great-granddaughter of Hyrum Smith, (brother of the Prophet Joseph Smith).
Survivors include her two sons, Wayne E. Sawyer Jr. of Idaho Falls, and Thomas Gayland Sawyer of Blackfoot; two daughters, Judy V. Kehoe Sawyer and Tamara Dawn Harris, both of Idaho Falls; a sister, Beth David of Blackfoot; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a great-grandson.
