Mrs. Helen Thompson Huie died 10 Jan 1950 at the Palo Alto Hospital in her 80th year. She was the former postmaster in Palo Alto and at Stanford University, and was the daughter of Frank P. Thompson, formerly the well-known editor and owner of the Redwood City Democrat.
She was born 15 Feb 1870 at Fort Point US Military Reservation in San Francisco. The Thompson family then moved to Santa Rosa and later to Eureka where Frank Thompson pursued his newspaper career before settling in Redwood City. After her father died, the family built a house at 909 Alma Street in Palo Alto. This was her home at the time of her death.
In 1914 (at age 44) she married George Bullitt Huie, a veteran of the Spanish-American War. He subsequently served in WWI and held the rank of Captain. Huie died in 1936. About a year later, Mrs. Huie's widowed sister, Mrs. Roberta Thompson La Farge, returned to live with her at the old family home.
She was survived by two brothers and a sister: John West Thompson of Mexico City, Robert Augustine Thompson of Alameda, and the fore-mentioned Roberta Thompson La Farge of Palo Alto. Funeral services were conducted 13 Jan 1950 at All Saints' Episcopal Church (where she was a long-time member) in Palo Alto with interment at The Presidio, San Francisco, adjacent to her husband.
