Elizabeth M. Thompson, daughter of Matthew and Bertha Cruse Sterman, was born January 20, 1904, in Sherburn, Minnesota. She departed this life, Wednesday, January 1, 2003, in Breech Regional Medical Center, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-eight years, eleven months, and eleven days.
On January 9, 1929, she was united in marriage to Gerald James Thompson, and to this union one daughter and one son were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald, on March 19, 1981; her son, Gary Thompson; three brothers, Hans, Louis, and Lloyd; and two sisters, Mable, and Norma.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Geraldine Maynor, of Lebanon, Missouri; four grandsons, William Maynor, of Baltimore, Maryland, Brian and Mark Maynor, both of Lebanon, Missouri, and Bruce Maynor, of Thousand Oaks, California; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Raymond Sterman, of Sunnyvale, California; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born in Minnesota and was raised in Iowa. After she and Gerald were married, they made their home in San Diego, California and lovingly raised their children. Throughout the fifty-two years, that Elizabeth and Gerald were married, she was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family. In 1993, Elizabeth moved to Lebanon, Missouri, to be near her daughter.
Elizabeth was raised and baptized in the Lutheran Church and followed that faith throughout her life. She was a member of the Paradise Valley Church, where she was active in the Bertha Circle.
In her spare time she enjoyed doing craft projects of all kinds, crocheting, and was an avid reader. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren.
Elizabeth was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Services will be held January 6, 2003 at 10:00a.m. in the Holman-Howe Drawing Room. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery near San Diego, California. Visitation will follow the service under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon, Missouri.
