Lorraine Murphy Thompson

Graveside services for Lorraine Murphy Thompson, 89, Ruston, La., formerly of Tyler, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery, under the direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Directors.

She passed away May 2, 2009, in a Ruston, La., hospital. She was born Nov. 6, 1919, in Corrigan to the late Green and Novella Murphy.

Lorraine was a homemaker and member of Fifth Street Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack M. Thompson Sr.

Survivors include a son, Jack Thompson Jr. and wife Diane of Tyler; their son, Trey Thompson and wife Stephanie; and daughters, Mallerie and Laney Cate of Tyler; a daughter, Sandy Rabb and husband Larry of Dubach, La., their son, Josh Rabb and wife Erin and family, Mia and Molly and daughter, Ashley Rabb of Santa Cruz, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Victoria Murphy of Dallas, Martha Murphy of Tyler and Virginia Murphy of San Antonio.

Lorraine Murphy Thompson was a kind and generous lady. She loved people, her family and her Lord. She was full of fun and humor. She loved playing cards and spent many hours at the bridge table. Her partners would tell you that she loved to win and usually did. In later years she played bingo at the retirement homes where she lived and would say, "Hot Diggity Dog," when she would win. Although she suffered from Alzheimer's disease, she did not lose her ability to play Bingo or her desire to win.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Russ House in Ruston, La., where she lived her last three years. They were so wonderful, kind and helpful. Also we wish to thank the wonderful sitters who spent the last four months with her: Erica, Tourie, Ree and Lisa - you made it possible for her to have strength, dignity and comfort until the end. We can never thank you enough.

The family will receive friends Tuesday at the funeral home from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
