Lourene Thompson Bader moved peacefully into her eternal new life on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, in Fort Worth.
She was born July 5, 1926, in Hanceville, Ala., to Pauline and Carl Henry Thompson. After graduating from Hanceville High School, she moved to Atlanta, Ga., to work for the First National Bank. She married the love of her life, Dan M. Bader, on May 11, 1946. They enjoyed almost 65 years together before he passed this life April 8, 2011. Before moving to Fort Worth to be closer to their son John, she and Dan enjoyed 24 years in Tyler after retiring from Exxon. She was an active member in the Baptist church, and was instrumental in the formation of the Woods Baptist Church of Tyler, where she still had her membership. In addition to active involvement in the Woods church, she was the consummate homemaker, well known for her cooking and baking talents. She was a tireless giver of her time and talent to both organizations and individuals alike. In addition to her husband, Dan, Lourene was preceded in death by her older brother, Carl Henry Thompson Jr.
She is survived by her sister, Peggy Hartley, of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; as well as her sister-in-law, Geraldine Bader, of Flowood, Miss., the wife of Dan's brother. She is also survived by her younger son, John and his wife Jana, of Fort Worth, her older son, Mark and his wife Jeanne, of Plano. Additionally, she is survived by two grandchildren, Sara and her husband Talmadge, of Abilene, and David and his wife Tracy, of Baltimore, Md. She also leaves behind seven beautiful great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home in Tyler with Dr. Charles Dodson officiating. She will be laid to rest in Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery. The family will be accepting visitors one hour prior to the service. The family requests that any donations be made to the Woods Baptist Church in Lourene's memory.
