Ethel Miranda Thomas, daughter of George Daniel and Myrtle Thomas, the second oldest of eleven children. When she was a small child her family moved to Hartington, Nebraska, where they were prominent farmers. Ethel received her education in that area.
Ethel Miranda Thomas married Dell D. Provancha September 29, 1917. They were farmers in the Cedar County area. They had three children: George, Ronald, and Vivian, George and Vivian both died in infancy. Dell died unexpectedly of menengitis on February 21, 1933. Ethel and Ronald lived in Harrington, Nebraska for about 2 more years then moved to Iowa where they worked for about 8 years, then moved to Klamath Falls, where most of her sisters and brothers from Harrington, Nebraska had already moved. She had 4 sisters and 3 brothers and their famiies that had moved here from Nebraska.
Hazel married Charles F. Caldwell in May 1941. They made their home in Klamath Falls for about 10 years, then moved to Nyssa, Oregon and bought a fruit farm and were farmers fo 6 more years. Charles had a fatal heart attack two months before they were to move back to Klamath Falls and retire. Ethel moved back, and was night clerk at the Valley Hotel for many years. She also worked several years at Klamath Nursery. She spent the remaining 25 years of her life in Klamath Falls, and passed away Feb. 21, 1981, exactly 47 years to the date her first husband died. She died of heart failure.
