Mrs. Lillie May Abston, 77, died of a lingering illness in her home ... today. She had been ill since September. ....
Mrs. Abston was born 3-1/2 miles southwest of Charleston, Nov. 4, 1874, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.N. Thomas. She was married to John A. Dunifer, Dec. 25, 1892, and moved to Mattoon after their marriage. He was killed while working on a railroad in 1906 (sic). She was married to William F. Abston, a carpenter, in October, 1910. He died March 12, 1934.
She is survived by a son, Paul Dunifer of Ogden, Utah, a daughter, Mrs. Clotilde Wood of Burbank, Cal., a stepson, Shelley Abston of Mattoon; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a brother Charles Thomas of Bloomington; two half-brothers, Arthur Thomas of Charleston and CPO L.N. Thomas of Great Lakes; and a half-sister, Miss Ilota Thomas, who lived with her at home.
The Charleston Daily Courier, Tuesday, Dec. 11, 1951, pg 6, adds that burial will be made in the Mound cemetery in Charleston.
