LewVon Basey, 83, of Caldwell died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, at a care facility in Star. LewVon was born to John Snell Thomas and Cynthia Lovina Dimick Thomas on May 25, 1924 at Carey. She graduated from Marsing High School in 1941 and in 1944 joined the Navy. She was honorably discharged in 1946.
LewVon returned to Marsing and on June 26, 1950 married Robert Clayton Basey. Bob and Von farmed near Homedale until 1975 when they moved to their own place on Map Rock Road. The years in Homedale included the birth of their two daughters and many happy years filled with hard work, rodeo, and family. LewVon traveled extensively throughout the Northwest and Canada participating in the Girls Northwest Rodeo Association. Bob passed away in 1996 and LewVon continued to farm the place by herself until 2003. LewVon was blessed to love two good men in her life, her husband, Bob and special friend and companion, Stanley Robison.
LewVon was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob Basey; brothers, Earl and Hugh Thomas; and sisters, Rhoda Magilavy, and Lucille (Willis) Proctor.
Surviving are sisters, Ellen (Bill) Bledsoe of Nampa and Clair Korn of Kenmore, Wash.; special friend, Stanley Robison of Caldwell; daughters, Linda (Tom) McElroy of Vale, Ore. and Donna (Kent) Gillespie of Rupert; granddaughter, Sarah Gillespie; grandsons, Brian Gillespie, Bob McElroy and Gary McElroy; and great-grandsons, Clayton, Weston, and Brody.
