Edward Thomas was born the, only child of Lourine B. Thomas and the late Louis T Thomas on January 27 1945 in Cdrdova, Tennessee. Edward confessed his life to Christ at ,the age of twelve and was baptized under the Pastorage of Rev. WM Fields in Memphis, TN Staying true to ftis beginning, Edward led a life filled with love, faith and hopç He departed this life on July 23, 2009 at 6:20a.m.
Edward graduated from Hales Francisca High ehool in Chicago, IL in 1963, and immediately joined the U.S. Navy where he served his country for four years. While serving, he earned numerous decorations and medals, including the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon,the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal (One Bronze Star) and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal Edward achieved the rank of Navy Airman and was Honorably Discharged July 2l, 1969.
After completing his military service, he began attending Olive Hartey Community College where he studied automotive repair. Edward began his career at United Parcel Service (UPS) as a vehicle washer. During his employment at UPS, Edward worked as a package unloader and preloader, and package car driver. In 1973, Edward was promoted to a tractor trailer driver; where he went on to receive numerous awards for 30 plus years of safe driving. Edward retired from UPS on July 1, 2003.
On December 15, 1979, Edward united in holy matrimony with Charlotte (James) Thomas and together they have shared 30 glorious years of love, commitment and dedication. Edward and Charlotte settled in Matteson, IL where they spent the remainder of his life together. Edward was a kind and loving husband, father and son who would share all that he had with those that he loved and cared about.
Celebrating Edward's life and legacy: are his loving wife — Charlotte; his wonderful mother — Lourine Thomas of Memphis, TN; three daughters — Gwendolyn E. (Emery) Thomas-Scott, Da Vita L. Thomas both of Huntsville, AL and Rachel D. Thomas of Country Club Hills, IL; one son —Derrick D. Thomas of Matteson, IL; six loving grandchildren Emery L. Scott, Jr., Nareeca. R. Scott, Da Vontez L. Thomas, Da' Vion. L. Thomas, Kaylah A. McFarren and Jaden R. Evans; one grandson — "one the way,"; one great grandson - Emery L. Scott, III; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, and friends. Edward was preceded in death by his father, Louis on February 6,1997.
