Heaven is rejoicing the arrival of our father, Dick, who's gone home to be with the Lord. Our dad spent much of his life in Roseburg, Oregon with late wife Sandy raising us seven kids. His last years were spent in Columbia, Mississippi, helping support our brother Richard in the oil business. This was just like Dad: big business-minded, and always supporting.
Dad was the man that everyone turned to for advice. His good advice came along with something that we affectionately call "The Dick Touch." He was always one-upping with unconventional thinking… and he was always right. His out-of-the-box ideas lead him to many successful businesses; Dad was quite the entrepreneur.
If raising six boys into men wasn't enough of an accomplishment, consider these: He and Mom grew a major pipeline construction company from a small septic-pumping business in Roseburg; turned a single tanning salon into a sprawling chain that spanned Houston, Texas; had an island in the middle of the Caribbean that became a top fishing destination, and home to multiple world records; and the success of the island enabled Dad to capitalize on a lumber mill in the hills of the Central American rainforest. And that's just the big stuff.
They loved to travel. It started with one trip to Mexico and became almost an annual excursion south, which included South American and eventually Central America. Everywhere we went, anyone who wanted to come was welcome. It was because of Dad and Mom's adventurous spirits we have been blessed with so many wonderful memories.
