Erma LaPearl Thomas Holmes, affectionately known as "Pearl" was born on August 17, 1946, to John Henry and Clara Burton Thomas in Baytown, Texas.

Her educational background began at Harlem Elementary School and continued to George Washington Carver High School where she graduated with honors in 1964.

Pearl confessed Christ at an early age and was a member of McGowen Temple Church of God in Christ in McNair Station, Baytown, Texas. She later joined Mt. Rose Church of God in Christ in Barrett Station, Crosby, Texas, under the leadership of Pastor Ronald Eagleton.

Pearl was employed by Chevron Phillips Company for more than 30 years in the Human Resources Department. She officially retired on April 1, 2008. In addition to work and church, Erma was a member of the Sisters With a Purpose (SWAP) book club.

Pearl was preceded in death by her father, John Henry Thomas; extended family Lee Verne Eagleton and Kenneth Eagleton. Pearl leaves to cherish her life and legacy her mother, Clara Burton Thomas; daughter, Sholanda Holmes; granddaughter, Jordan Holmes; stepson, Reginald Holmes; two brothers, Earl "Curt" Thomas (Brigette), Harold "Hank" Thomas (Wonda); sister, Doris N. Thomas. She leaves her extended family to cherish her memory – Carolyn Eagleton, Tanya Eagleton, Loraine Myles, LeVerne Eagleton, Howard Eagleton, Lester Eagleton, Sherman Eagleton, Herman Eagleton, Anthony Eagleton, Michael Eagleton and Lee Verne Phillips. Erma also leaves to cherish her memories her honorary sons, Hammond Thomas and Xavier Fretty; her goddaughters, Crezetta Guess and Omega LaPearl Jones; her nieces, Desiree Broadnax (Andre) and Michaela Thomas; her nephews, Dayne Thomas, Dwayne Thomas, Harold Speed, Harold Thomas, Jr., Heron Thomas, Hammond Thomas and Danny Thomas; and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Saturday, April 12, 2008 visitation will be 9:00 am to 11:00 with services beginning at 11:00 am with Pastor Ronald Eagleton officiating , Mt. Rose Church of God in Christ, 13000 FM Road 2100, Barrett Station, Crosby, Texas. Interment will be at San Jacinto Cemetery, I-10 East, Houston, Texas.
