ELIZA JANE THOMAS STILES
1855-1927

Eliza was born in Lowndes Co., AL, 1855 to James Thomas and Marina Clarinda Grice. Eliza was one of four daughters orphaned during the Civil War and who became the responsibility of their grandmother ELIZABETH TODD GRICE of Alabama.

Elizabeth Todd Grice (at 65 years old), migrated with other Todd relatives from central Alabama to Milam County, TX, in 1872, six years after the close of the Civil War. She traveled with her four orphaned grand daughters via steamship, Mobile-to-Galveston and settled with her son WILLIS GRICE in the community of Salty, near Thrall.

Subsequently, two of the four granddaughters married two sons of Central Texas pioneer Stiles. Eliza is buried at Taylor, while her sister Marina is buried in the Stiles Family Cemetery near Thrall, along side her Grandmother Elizabeth Todd Grice.

The other two granddaughters were twins and married (c1876) cowboys who later settled in Wyoming.

Of course, I should mention that ELIZABETH TODD GRICE was an aunt of my ancestor DAVID STEELE TODD (father of Boyd Rouse Todd). She migrated to Milam County along with D. S. Todd and other Todd relatives in 1872.
