Marielle Thomas Hammett, 78, of Leesburg, died at the home of her daughter, Marielle Kronberg, after a long battle with emphysema. She was born 9 September 1920 in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, to Isaac Thomas and Marielle (Hartshome) Thomas. A history major, she graduated from Vassar College in 1941, and did graduate work at Columbia University in New York City. She taught history, Latin, and German in a girl's private school in New York, California and in Oklahoma, and then at Kent Place School for Girls in New Jersey, where she taught third grade from 1950 to 1962, she took a post as assistant librarian at The Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, where she worked until retirement in 1983. She moved to Leesburg in 1990. She is survived by her daughter, her son-in-law Kenneth Kronberg and grandson Max Issac Thomas Kronberg, all of Leesburg, one sister, Josephine Morris of Paradise Valley, Arizona, one brother Isaac Thomas, Jr of Princeton Junction, New Jersey, two nephews and a niece, and three grand-nieces. A funeral was Monday at Saint James Episcopal Church in Leesburg, with interment at Edgewood Cemetery in Pottstown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Memorial contributions may be made to Running Strong for American Indian Youth, a project of Christian Relief Services, P.O. Box 670, Raton, New Mexico 87740-0670. Arrangements were by Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg.
