OBITUARY - Coos Bay Harbor, North Bend, Oregon, Thursday, 6 November 1941, Page Eight - Ed Thomas is Buried - 82-Year Old Resident Born on Kentuck Inlet - In the death of Edward Thomas of Kentuck inlet, it is believed the oldest native born Coos resident passed away last Friday, after an illness of two months during which time he was a patient in a hospital.
He was the son of John Thomas and his Indian wife, his father coming here from Kentucky in early days. Edward was born on the inlet 82 years ago, and owned a ranch there which he operated many years. He was engaged in earlier life with some of the Coos Bay sawmills, but lately paid attention only to farming and fishing. After John Thomas came to Coos Bay and settled on Kentuck inlet the neighbors nicknamed him Kentuck, and the cognomen was applied to the son subsequent to his father's death.
Survivors include Mrs. Thomas and his brother James of Kentuck inlet. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at Peterson's, Rev. W. S. Burgoyne officiating and burial was on Kentuck inlet.
