Henrietta Thigpen was born October 31, 1925 in Lesmith, South Carolina to the union of Henry Booze and Nancy Graham Booze. She was the youngest of six siblings. She graduated from Hungerford School in Maitland, Florida.
Henrietta was united in marriage to Maurice Thigpen on August 3, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois. She worked for Cook County Hospital in Chicago for 10 years and was the supervisor of the cafeteria at the Chicago Public School system until her retirement.
Henrietta and Maurice decided to move to Momence, Illinois (Forest Valley), to live out their days. Henrietta was a member of the Church of Christ of Hopkins Park, Illinois.
Henrietta is remembered as being a very kind and generous person. She was always willing to help anyone in need. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and raising her chickens and cats. She truly enjoyed her family. She is best remembered for her cooking and inviting the family over for dinner and picnics.
Henrietta departed this life on Monday, January 18, 2010; she leaves to cherish fond memories, one brother, Ernest Booze of Weirsdale, Florida; one daughter April Braxton of Chicago, Illinois, her cousin Amey Alston of South Carolina, two sisters-in-law, Coreen Booze of Ocala, Florida, and Ionia Foster of Bourbonnais, Illinois; a special friend, Sara Barnes of Chicago, Illinois; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Henrietta was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; two brothers, Henry and Herman and two sisters, Hattie and Coreen.
The family will receive friends and family on Wednesday January 27, 2010 at the Jones Funeral Chapel from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral services. The
Reverend Wallace McNeal will officiate. Interment will be in Momence Cemetery, Momence, IL.
