Born Valentina Verardi on Staten Island, she lived in Westerleigh for two years and in Great Kills for twenty years before settling in West Brighton.
She attended Port Richmond High School and was a longtime parishioner of Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church, West Brighton.
Mrs. Thierry was a volunteer at Staten Island University Hospital, Prince's Bay. She also enjoyed shopping, crocheting, and relaxing on her porch. She loved pizza from Denino's in Port Richmond and spending time with her family, who describe her as "the strongest woman we ever knew."
Surviving are four sons, Martin, David, Peter, and Joseph Thierry; a daughter Lisa Guzy; and fourteen grandchildren.
The funeral will be held tomorrow from the Harmon Home for Funerals, West Brighton, with a Mass at 9:45 a.m. in Holy Family R.C. Church, Westerleigh.
Arrangements include cremation.
