Hazel Johnson, age 81, of 1110 South Marshall Street, died December 6, 2013, at the Boone County Hospital.

Funeral services are Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall, with Rev. Gary Sneller officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, west of Boone.

Hazel was born in Boone on February 8, 1932, daughter of Henry and Mae (Spraguer) Thede.

On October 10, 1952, Hazel married Charles Johnson in Boone.

In earlier years, Hazel worked at the former Erickson Electric in Boone and she also worked as an operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company.

She and her husband lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, for many years, moving back to Boone in 2008. Hazel was a member of the Telephone Pioneer Club and a life member of the American Legion Post #56 Auxiliary.

She enjoyed crocheting, reading, watching NASCAR and her driver Joey Logano, and going to casinos.

Hazel is preceded in death by her parents, husband, six brothers: John, Richard, Arthur, Ross, Roy, and Robert Thede; four sisters: Marie Hubby, Ann Jones, Roselyn Reinsch, and Joyce Lindahl. She is survived by two sisters: Eileen Gustafson and Chris Alexander both of Boone; two sisters-in-law: Barbara Thede and Harriett Thede, both of Boone; and numerous nieces and nephews.
