The funeral for Darrell Thayer will be today (Thursday) at 10:30 a.m. at the Superior United Methodist Church.
He died Monday at the Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital at the age of 57 years, 4 months and 18 days.
The son of Ira and Rose White Thayer, he was born March 13, 1932, on a farm near Guide Rock in Webster County, Nebraska.
He grew up in and around the Superior community. At an early age he was baptized at the Presbyterian Church in Superior. He graduated from Superior High School with the class of 1950. Thayer served his country with the United States Army, being inducted Jan. 15, 1953, and gaining his discharge Jan. 12, 1955.
Jan. 18, 1966, he was united in marriage to Glenda Lee Bartley at Las Vegas, Nev. This union was blessed with the birth of two sons.
He was a member of the Superior American Legion, the Superior VFW, the Elks Lodge of Superior and a past board member and past president of the Superior Country Club.
Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Wayne and Jerry.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda; sons, Ron Thayer and Bruce Thayer, both of Lincoln; brothers, Max Thayer of Republic and Verle Thayer of Alliance, Ohio; sisters, Nila Barfknecht of Nelson, Wanda Adams of Superior, Elaine Briggs of Plainwell, Mich., and
Muriel Ray of Alliance, Ohio; stepfather, Orval Patterson, Superior; and many other relatives.
The Rev. Jerry Heydenberk officiated at the services and interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery. Williams Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
