Prudence (Holtrop) Gilgen, was born on December 13, 1930, in Onawa, Iowa, the daughter of William and Leota Prudence (King) Thayer. She lived her youth and attended school in Turin, Iowa.
She was united in marriage to Lyle W. Gilgen of Onawa, Iowa, in 1948.
Lyle was a dragline operator in Onawa, Iowa, Sheldon, Iowa, and Little Rock, Arkansas, where they lived.
Lyle passed away in 1975.
Prudence moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa, in 1975.
She moved to Sibley, Iowa, in 1977.
Prudence was an Avon District Manager when she lived in Arkansas.
In 1977, Prudence met Gene Holtrop from Sibley. They maintained a very close friendship and enjoyed traveling together and spending winters in McAllen, Texas.
Prudence enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, working crossword puzzles, making crafts and playing cards.
She will be remembered as a happy, fun-loving and giving person. Her grandchildren were very special to her.
She passed away on Monday, August 29, 2005, at her home in Sibley, at the age of 74 years, 8 months and 16 days.
Those left to cherish her memories are her special friend Gene Holtrop of Sibley, IA; two sons: Lyle LeRoy Gilgen of Primgar, IA, Barry and wife Beverly Gilgen of Wichita, KS; one daughter: Mona Rae Roach of Foxworth, MS; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers: Ronnie (Deloris) Thayer of Griswold, IA, Rex (Sylvia) Thayer of Corning, NY.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle Gilgen; her parents; one brother: Richard Thayer.
