Emily was the oldest of 8 children born to Jesse W. and Elizabeth Lindsey Terry. She was born in Alabama and married Alfred Ross in Anderson Co., TX on March 10, 1854.
The Ross children are:
Isaac, 1856 - Feb 21, 1867.
Amanda C.- b.Feb 1860 Jack Co., TX.
Moses, born in 1862.
Elizabeth - Jack Co., TX May 22, 1864 - Sept. 3, 1953 Richland Springs, San Saba Co., TX.
On Feb. 21, 1867, Indians raided their home near Finis, Jack Co., TX killing her husband, Alf, her brother-in-law, Frelling Shadrack Hightower, and her son Isaac, who were all working in the fields.
Emily escaped with the 3 youngest children down to nearby Rock Creek, where she hid under the embankment among tree roots and brush.
On July 1, 1873 she married Richard J. Stanton in Jack Co., TX. They had two boys, Wm and Robert, both buried, at the age of 1 and 3, in the Ft. Richardson Cemetery in Jack Co., TX.
