Wife of Dean, parents of Deborah & Denise

Doris J. Tenley, 88, of Stanwood, passed away on her birthday, Friday, December 18, 2020, at her home in Stanwood, surrounded by her family.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all who plan to attend the visitation and services are ask to wear a mask and practice social distancing within groups.

Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, December 21, at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Union Church or Fire and Ambulance Services of Stanwood in her memory. All cards and memorial may be mailed to: Denise Engelkens, 401 West Street, Stanwood, IA 52337.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 22, at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton. Pallbearers are Everett Husmann, Eddie Husmann, Mark Lyon, Richard Lyon, Roger Zirkelbach and Tony Wagner. Burial will be in the Stanwood Cemetery, Stanwood, Iowa.

Doris Janet Lyon was born December 18, 1932, in Linn County, the daughter of Edgar and Gladys (Clark) Lyon. She graduated from Wyoming High School in 1950. She married her brother-in-law, Dean Allen Tenley on August 18, 1965. Dean preceded her in death on July 17, 2012. She was a farm wife and a child care provider. She was a member of the Stanwood Union Church and the Union Church Circle. She was known for her quick-witted comebacks, love of birds, many years of childcare and her beautiful decorated yard. She enjoyed quilting, garage sales, collecting cookie jars, puzzles, Christmas and children. Above all, she loved the time she spent with her family and her nieces and nephews, who she helped raise following the death of her sister, Norma Tenley.

Surviving are two daughters, Deborah (Richard) Meyer of Mechanicsville and Denise (Wade) Engelkens of Stanwood; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three nieces, Dee Ann Koberle of Stanwood, Donna (Garret) Moenk of Monticello and Diane (Paul) Feuss of Oxford Junction; one nephew, David (Ginger) Tenley of Clarence; one sister, Patricia (George) Zirkelbach of Olin, one brother, Darwin (Darlene) Lyon of Maquoketa; and one sister-in-law, Patricia Lyon of Wyoming.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one grandson-in-law, Troy Brown, three sisters, Margaret Pegariek, Elaine Husmann and Norma Tenley and three brothers, Eugene Lyon, Robert Lyon and Kenneth Lyon.
