Margaret Tedrow, resident of Fremont, passed away in her sleep August 15, 2011. She was 91 years old. Margaret was born December 18, 1919, in Portland, Oregon, to Hilmer and Emma Henrikson. She was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. Margaret was raised in Aberdeen, Washington, and graduated from Weatherwax High School in Aberdeen in 1937. In 1942 she married George E. Tedrow, an engineer she met while working as a secretary at the Bremerton Navy Yard during World War II. After their marriage, they lived in Bremerton and then in Beaux Arts Village near Seattle, where George built a house. In 1945 their only child James was born. In 1950 the family moved to Portland, Oregon, and then in 1951 to San Jose, California. During her time in San Jose, Margaret was active in church and community affairs. She and George were charter members of the Church of the Valley, and she served as a deacon, church council member and Sunday school teacher. She was proud to have suggested the name of the church. She was also a Cub Scout den mother and a docent at the San Jose Museum of Art. Margaret was active in the Republican Women and was an associate member of the Republican State Central Committee. After the death of her husband George in 1994, Margaret moved to Valley Village Retirement Community in Santa Clara, and in 2002 she moved to Fremont to be close to her son James. Margaret is survived by her son James and daughter-in-law Somruk. Her grandson Arnold Tedrow and granddaughter Constance Lentine, Constance's husband Shane Lentine and her great grandson Vincent Lentine also survive her. She is also survived by her brother Harold Henrikson. Margaret was a good wife and mother and a generous, kind person, always willing to help others. A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Valley, 400 N. Winchester Blvd., Santa Clara at 1:00 on Saturday, August 27. Donations may be made to the O'Connor Hospital Foundation, 2105 Forrest Ave, San Jose, CA 95128.
