APPLEGATE, ELIZABETH ADDIS
( Nee Taylor) Age 93, of Whiting and Seaside Park, died on Thursday, March 27th, 2008 at home.
Mrs. Applegate was born in Lansdowne, PA and lived in Merchantville and Seaside Park before moving to Whiting 1990. She was a graduate of the Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, Pa. She was a past member of Lansdowne Presbyterian Church, Merchantville Presbyterian Church and Community Reformed Church in Whiting.
Mrs. Applegate was a past member of the Merchantville Country Club and the Toms River Country Club. She was a lifelong member of Seaside Park Yacht Club, a charter member of the Sand Dollar Garden Club in Seaside Park and a longtime member of the Seaside Park Republican Club. Mrs. Applegate was a past member of the Women's Board at Cooper Hospital in Camden.
She loved her family, her friends and her Crestwood Manor family. She was a 'pioneer' at Crestwood Manor having moved there when they opened in 1990 and was instrumental in helping to start many programs and activities that exist today. One of her favorites was being head of the volunteers in the Health Care Wing for many years. She was at home whether playing golf, gardening, sailing, traveling or helping others. She had a quiet strength and a strong resolve,always a wink, a friendly smile, and a kind hello. She will be deeply missed.
She is predeceased by her husband Robert John of 51 years in 1988, her son Alan Downing Applegate, granddaugh- ters, Stephanie Ann Pizzi and Terri Applegate, her parents, Robert Downing and Virginia Evans Taylor, her 3 brothers, Downing Taylor, Evans Taylor and William Taylor & her son-in-law, Frank A. Pizzi Jr. and several nieces and nephews. Surviving are her son, R. John Applegate Jr. and his wife Gail of Shaker Heights, Ohio, two daughters, Virginia A. Pizzi of Millington, NJ and Nancy Carlson and her husband Jeff of Seaside Park, five grandchildren, Alan and Scott Applegate, Cindy Mauer, Frank and Traci Pizzi, and eight great grandchildren, Tyler, Robbie, Ryan and Halle Applegate, Stephanie and Robert Mauer, and Frankie & Isabella Pizzi and several nieces & nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 10:30 am until the funeral service at 11:30 am at Community Reformed Church, 30 Lacey Road, Whiting. Burial will be at Colestown Cemetery in Cherry Hill at 2:45pm.
